A LETTER · NOT A PRICING PAGE

Why Knocket is free.

Every founder building today has been trained to expect a catch. A seat limit that appears after the tenth signup, a feature you actually need locked behind a "Team" plan, a support widget that quietly starts charging once you're getting real traffic.

So this is a letter — an honest attempt to explain why Knocket is the way it is, and why it will stay that way.

◈ THE QUESTION

Yes, forever. And we know that sounds suspicious.

Free tools are supposed to end. There's usually a moment — sometimes a month in, sometimes a year — when the invoice arrives. We know how this looks.

So before anything else, we owe you an honest answer.

✿ WHAT WE SAW

Before Knocket existed, we spent time with people shipping alone.

Solo builders. Two-person teams. Indie hackers with a landing page, a Stripe test key, and one week of runway between paying rent and paying for tools.

We kept watching what happened when their first user finally showed up. Someone landed on the page, hovered over the pricing, hesitated, tried to ask a question — and there was nowhere for them to ask it.

No chat. No contact form worth filling out. Sometimes a mailto: link, and the reply landed three days later in a folder no one checked. That first user — the one who actually cared enough to reach out — quietly left.

And the founder never knew.

This kept happening. To almost everyone.

◐ HOW WE GOT HERE

Customer communication software stopped being for people building things.

Somewhere along the way, it started being made for people managing things.

The tools got sophisticated. Roles and permissions. Assignment queues. SLAs. Reporting dashboards. Multi-workspace billing. All real, all necessary — for a mature support team.

But if you're the founder, and you're the developer, and you're the person who answers Twitter replies at 11pm, none of that is for you. What you actually need is a way to hear your first hundred users, one at a time.

Modern communication tools price that need at fifty dollars a seat per month, then wonder why founders skip installing anything at all.

The gap didn't happen on purpose. It happened because software follows revenue, and revenue lives with big teams. The result is that the people with the most to learn from talking to their users — early-stage founders — are the least equipped to actually do it.

◉ WHAT WE BELIEVE

Every early user matters.

Not "matters as a metric." Matters as a person who typed a message into your product before anyone else in the world thought it was worth trying. That first message deserves a reply.

Every conversation with an early user is worth more than any dashboard you'll ever build.

Talking to your users shouldn't be a line item on a startup expense sheet. It shouldn't be the thing you can't afford yet. It should be the first thing you set up, the easiest thing you own, and the last thing anyone charges you for.

▸ WHY FREE

Free isn't our marketing. It's what the product has to be.

Knocket is free because we don't think communication should ever be the barrier between a founder and their first hundred users.

If you're building alone in a room, we don't want to be another decision. We don't want to be a monthly invoice you cancel when the trial ends. We want to be the tool you install without thinking about it, forget the price of, and keep for years.

Not because we found a clever pricing loophole. Not because we're subsidizing you until we can start charging. Because the product wouldn't make sense any other way.

◈ HOW WE GROW

We grow after you grow.

Here's what we think happens. You install Knocket when you're one person with a landing page. A year later, you have five teammates and three products. Two years later, you're routing conversations to a real support person, integrating with your own tooling, running automated flows, wiring an AI agent into your inbox because your volume has finally outgrown you.

At that point, your communication needs have genuinely changed — more integrations, more automation, developer APIs, AI workflows, team collaboration features that only make sense when there's a team. Those are things we'll happily build, and things mature companies pay for elsewhere anyway.

The core Knocket experience — the contact page, the widget, the unified inbox — stays free forever. What we add on top, later, is for the version of you that has outgrown needing anything free.

We grow after you grow.
That's not a slogan. It's the shape of the business.

◐ WHY WE'LL STILL BE HERE

Reliable enough to last as long as you do.

It's fair to ask whether a free tool can actually stick around.

Knocket runs on Tencent RTC — real-time messaging infrastructure battle-tested at scale for years. We didn't build a messaging backend from scratch and hope it survives. We built on a base that was going to exist whether Knocket existed or not.

When we say free forever, we're not making a promise that depends on us hitting a runway milestone. We're describing a product built on infrastructure that is already durable.

✕ WHAT WE'LL NEVER BE

Knocket will never become another CRM.

It will never become another enterprise helpdesk. It will never become another support platform sold to procurement teams comparing feature grids in a spreadsheet.

The temptation to add every feature every customer requests is real — and it's the exact temptation that turned every previous customer-conversation tool into the thing founders can no longer afford. We would rather stay small and useful than grow large and unusable.

Simplicity is the feature we're most committed to protecting.

✿ WHAT WE'RE REALLY DOING

Somewhere out there, right now, someone is shipping the first version of the thing that will change their life.

In an hour, or a day, or a week, a stranger is going to land on that page and try to send them a message.

We built Knocket so that message actually gets through.

May you never miss
the conversation that changes
your company.
